Since I’ve already fangirled recently over Jen Hatmaker, it’s only fair game that I do so over Angie Smith. Many, many years ago I started reading Angie’s blog Bring the Rain, not long after her infant daughter Audrey passed away from many complications a few hours after being born. Then Angie started writing books and I was nervous they would kind of be lame.
Mended is Angie’s 3rd book and is pretty amazing. It’s a collection of blog posts written throughout the years, edited and condensed into a format that would work well for a book. Most of the chapters I’ve read before in their original blog format. Many people might find it kind of sucky to read a bunch of blog posts again, only in a book format, but I was really happy with the way this turned out. It was such an inspiration to read through these funny, honest, raw posts. I’m reminded time and time again that there are Christian authors whose works are not full of cheese and sap. There are 31 chapters in Mended along with questions at the end of each chapter to help readers digest Angie’s message and apply God’s truths to their own lives. I think most people would get the most out of it by reading it as a devotional over the span of a month, but I like to buck trends and read it cover-to-cover in a few days.
I’d recommend this book to anyone who is a Christian or who is looking to experience some good, Biblical information or to get more information about walking how Christ walked.
